Lee Passmore - San Diego's Backyard Naturalist
Considerable patience is necessary to study the habits of trapdoor spiders.

The letter of thanks for the donation of my great grandfather's slides and materials to the San Diego Natural History Museum in 1958 shortly before his death.
As I don't sell any of Lee Passmore's images I would like to direct any funds you'd like to donate to please do so to the San Diego Natural History Museum. They are providing a wonderful service to the San Diego community.
The museum in the late 2010's opened an exhibit featuring many San Diego residents that were self taught in science and in naturalist field. One exhibit displayed items from Lee Passmore.

Lantern Slide

An example of a lantern slide from Lee Passmore. As you can see it was numbered, and etched into the glass of the slide is a description of the subject, as well as Lee's copyright notice. This image was probably taken in 1922. Lee went on several excursions to the Coronado Islands, Mexico. These islands are just a few short miles from the San Diego bay. It appears that Lee made use of the many images he took there for naturalist purposes but as well selling postcards of the images. At the time "colorizing" the postcards was popular. The image was sent away to be made into a color postcard based on the real picture.
